Course Information
Description An examination of major theories and current treatment modalities used in the field of counseling
Prerequisites None
Learning Outcomes Students will be able to :
1) identify major counseling theories, key figures, their philosophy and key concepts
2) define and explain techniques relevant to the various theories
3) identify major approaches to treatment
4) identify the attitudes and skills that are essential to becoming an effective multicultural counselor
Core Objectives Students will be able to :
1) identify major counseling theories, key figures, their philosophy and key concepts

Program Student Learning Outcomes Demonstrate basic knowledge of essential characteristics of an effective counselor.
Demonstrate basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are critical in becoming an effective multicultural counselor.
Demonstrate knowledge of a framework for ethical decision making.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of key concepts and commonly used techniques of psychoanalytic therapy, as well as existential humanistic and person-centered theories.
Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts and characteristics that unite the field of behavior therapies
( Cognitive, Cognitive-Behavioral , and Reality.
